The Lonsdale Water Power Company, an unchartered corporation founded by the firm of Brown & Ives with Edward Carrington and others, was organized in 1825. The company proceeded to buy up estates and water rights along the Blackstone River in the towns of Smithfield and Cumberland, Rhode Island. Dancewicz was born in Monasterzyska, Poland and became a U.S. citizen in 1934. His career in the textile industry began in 1922 at the Slater Mills in Webster, Mass., where he was an apprentice spinner and weaver. He then advanced to loom-fixer, foreman, and finally overseer of the weaving department.
